Q&A with Kari

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

The Last Unicorn

What is your favorite children's book?

I loved Dr Seuss as a kid, and Goosebumps. I enjoyed reading Dr Seuss and Sandra Boynton's book to my kids.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

I had a Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby that "told" stories (from a cassette tape inserted in the back of Teddy). My Light Bright was also a favorite.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

I have been very lucky in life to have family, step-family, neighbors and friends who I find inspirational. I have special admiration for those people in my life who didn't have to, but chose to step into my life and provide care, guidance, and support. They had no obligation, and no responsibility, but give of themselves anyway.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I enjoy hiking and trail riding. I like to quilt. I volunteer in various local organizations. I really enjoy cooking.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

From my first pediatric rotation in PA school, I really enjoyed pediatrics. I love working with infants and children. I have always felt so rewarded by the relationships I build in primary care.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I try to be welcoming, attentive, patient and honest with all my patients. I aim to provide educated advice and informed guidance.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

Our office supports patients and families with various special needs. We try to accommodate patients and families by providing an experience that suits their child's needs and supports their family. That can mean adjusting typical routines, modifying how we perform vitals or exams, providing extra time for office appointments, or other supportive measures. My time as a para-educator in an Autism support classroom really informed my clinical approach to children with autism.
