Q&A with Dr. Maddalena
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
The (1973) Disney Robin Hood movie was one of our favorites when my boys were little. It is just the right amount of adventure, silliness, sweet characters and great music. We still quote some of the lines.
What is your favorite children's book?
It's so hard to choose, but I read "You Can Do It, Sam" by Amy Hest a lot to my boys. It's about a bear and his mama who make cakes for their friends on a snowy day.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Any doll! I loved pretending I had real babies.
Who is your greatest inspiration?
I am daily inspired by my dedicated colleagues and the families we serve, some of whom surmount all kinds of hard situations with persistence and hope.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I love gardening, reading, hiking (especially our trips to National Parks) and being a part of our church.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
There is nothing like walking along side a family as their kids grow from the newborn stage to leaving the nest! It is such a privilege to be a trusted advisor along the way. Plus, kids are funny and say what they mean. I love helping them learn how to keep their bodies and minds healthy as they grow and help them navigate the tricky situations of life.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
Some of my special interests include helping parents who are navigating life with a fussy baby, and supporting our breastfeeding families. It is important for parents to know they can express their doubts and questions to me and I will listen and help them come up with the best plan for their child. I know there are many situations while raising kids that can cause worry or confusion, and I want to be available to help families work through those.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
We work hard to give kids who may need more time during appointments just that. We collaborate with specialists and keep up with what may be going on outside our practice to provide coordinated care.
